History
The Maasai community worked together to form the Mara North Conservancy because they wanted to protect their land. In 2009, over 800 warriors were able to make it official. The communities worked with a number of lodging groups to make sure that landlords and safari tourists could live together happily.
Fees and permits to get in
Adults pay USD70 to enter the Masai Mara National Reserve, and children under 12 years old pay USD40. Each person can enter for 24 hours.
When they are open
The times that the Masai Mara National Reserve gates open and close also apply to people who are living in the Mara North Conservancy. The gates are open every day from 6 am to 6 pm.
How to Get There
By Road
If you drive from Nairobi, the 152-mile trip will take you about five hours. The B3 and C13 will be used for the drive west.
By Air
There are 125 miles between the airport and the Mara North Conservancy runway, and the flight will take about 50 minutes.
Best Time to Visit
Climate and weather
The temperature in the Mara North Conservancy is mild, with two clear rainy seasons and a dry, cool winter that lasts from June to August. It only rains for a short time in November. From March to early May, it rains the most. In the winter, when safari season is at its peak, temperatures run around 75 F.
Staying away from crowds
July through September is a busy time for the Mara North Conservancy. Many people come to the Masai Mara during this time to see the Great Migration in July. People can have a great trip if they go outside of these months and right before the short rains that start in November. Folks who like birds should go in January and February, before the long rains, to see one of the more than 500 kinds of birds that have been seen in the Mara.

There are more than 500 kinds of birds and about 90 species of mammals. This part of the Masai Mara has a lot of animals. You can see Maasai giraffes, western white bearded wildebeest, Topi, and many other exciting animals.
The Ground
The Mara North Conservancy is mostly grassland, but there are some acacia and elephant pepper trees spread out across the area. Along the northern border, the Mara River runs through dense forests.

Game Drives
There are two types of 4×4 game drives in the Mara North Conservancy: those that are open and those that are closed off with a pop-up roof. Early morning and late afternoon drives on the conservancy usually last three hours each. Guests living in the Mara North Conservancy can also go on a night game drive.

Go for a walk in the woods with a Maasai guide. You’ll go through low grasslands and open savannahs, where you can keep an eye out for plains game and watch bigger animals from a safe distance. Take in the fresh air of the African bush and learn about the plants and animals that are nearby.
