Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve, is on the east coast of Kenya. It is about 350 miles from Nairobi and only 55 miles from Mombasa, a coastal city.

The Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve covers 15 square miles.

History

In the 1970s, Kisite Island and Mpunguti Island were added to a group of marine parks and protected areas. Then, in 1978, the Kenyan government set up the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve. The group wants to protect the area’s beautiful coral gardens, islands, and underwater worlds.

Fees and permits to get in

People aged 3 to 12 pay USD 117 per person to enter the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve. Adults pay USD 30 per person. Look at our WASINI SHOW AND DOLPHIN EXCURSION.

The gate to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve is open every day from 6 am to 6 pm.

How to Get There

By Road

The Mombasa Road leads over 50 miles to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve. The road starts in the coastal city of Mombasa and goes west.

By Air

It will take about 80 minutes to fly from Jomo Kenyatta (NBO), Nairobi’s largest airport, to Ukunda (UKA). Guests will be taken from Ukanda to Diani Beach, which is a 15-minute drive, where they will board a boat for the 33-mile trip to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve.

Best Time to Visit

Climate and weather

The weather along the coast is muggy, and the average temperature is between 70 F and 93 F all year. Between October and December, it rains for a short time. From March to May, it rains more heavily.

 

Staying away from crowds

A lot of people like to visit the Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve from July to the end of September, when it’s dry. From late December to the end of February, when the rain stops, the skies are clear, the days are warm and humid, and it’s easy to see. Visitors who want to avoid crowds should think about going to the area in late October or early November, or maybe in June, when there will be fewer people and boats there.

Common Sightings of Marine Life

The Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve has one of the highest numbers and most diverse populations of marine life. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of mammals and sea life while on boat tours or while diving and swimming. Most people go to see dolphins, but if you go between July and December, you might see a humpback whale on its way to or from Africa.

 

The Waterside Scenery

The Kenyan Barrier Reef runs from Shimoni to Malindi and has beautiful coral reefs. It is a beautiful underwater country. The Shimoni Slave Caves are close by and are different from the water wonders. The stark stone buildings remind people of a darker part of the country’s past, which makes them interesting to learn about.
